Despite the Lakes District and Queenstown region is a well sought-for location for many Czech expats, either to live permanently or coming for a short visit as tourists, there was not any active expats’ club or association here until the 2016.
That’s why a group of my like-minded friends and I, with a great support of the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Sydney, founded and established the official Czech & Slovak Club Queenstown. Since the club’s existence there has been organised a variety of events, ranging from significant happenings to informal, laid back meetings and catch-ups.
Most popular are the traditional Czech-styled holiday celebrations such as Christmas or Easter.
The Club also volunteers in all sorts of projects, such as the reconstruction of the lovely Heather Jock Hut above Glenorchy for the Wakatipu DOC office.
